Coming up at the Frank Venables Theatre

During the coming year, four Friday nights at the Venables Theatre will be filled with entertainment for families. A special treat for moms and dads, aunts and uncles, guardians and grandparents and anyone else who enjoys a night out with their kids. The new series is called Family ShowTime and tickets to all four shows are on sale now.
Fred Penner kicks off the series Friday October 26th. Penner, one of Canada’s most beloved children’s entertainers, is well known for the classics “The Cat Came Back” and “Puff the Magic Dragon.” Millennials will remember Fred as he crawled through a log into the magical land where his CBC TV show took place. Penner has entertained families for decades and now children in the South Okanagan can experience the magic of his music too.
Alex Zerbe zig-zags to Venables with the “Zaniac Comedy Show” on January 25th. The Professional Zaniac, who’s been cracking jokes onstage for almost 15 years, bounces between physical stunts and non-stop comedy. During the show vegetables are sliced in half by flying playing cards, bowling balls are juggled with ease and every audience volunteer leaves the stage in triumph.
Dufflebag Theatre joins the showcase March 1st with Sleeping Beauty. Audience members become the stars of the show in this interactive adaptation of the classic fairy tale. Dufflebag travels the globe and shares their wit and humour enjoyed by all ages. Unpredictable onstage antics, laughter and a whole lot of family fun are in store when DuffleBag Theatre is in town.
Axé Capoeira rounds out the series May 10th. Featuring traditional Brazilian capoeira music as well as upbeat vocals and instrumentals, these professional capoeiristas and dancers are showcased at the height of their skill. With acclaimed dancing and marital arts, high-flying acrobatics and dazzling costumes, Axé Capoeira performances enthrall audiences of all ages.
Family ShowTime is presented by Venables Theatre with the support of the Community Presenters Assistance program (of the BC Arts Council and BC Touring Council) along with Tinhorn Creek and the Coast Oliver Hotel.
All performances are at Venables Theatre at 6100 Gala Street in Oliver. Tickets to all four shows are on sale now for only $40. Single show tickets are $12.50 and will be available October 1st. For more information visit
